In-home Puppy Training with Alamo Dog Training
Alamo Dog Training in San Antonio, Texas provides in-home puppy training services performed by a professional, certified dog trainer. It’s always best to think ahead, but whether you get in touch with us before or after you bring your furry bundle of joy home, we can help them adjust to their new surroundings.
Puppies are a clean slate, which makes them ideal candidates for dog training. We always recommend adding puppy training to your list of initial expenses simply because it’s better to set boundaries and expectations from the start rather than wait and see if any issues crop up.
Once your puppy begins a behavior, it can be a challenge to get them to stop.
What does puppy training look like?
Puppy training is fun! Your puppy gets plenty of playtime and attention, and you can feel confident that your puppy will be well trained and remain that way as they mature. At Alamo Dog Training, we love sharing our knowledge of training methods, canine psychology, and more. Our goal is to give you the tools you need to teach your puppy now and address any new behavioral problems that may arise as they grow.
Our in-home puppy training program addresses the following:
- Basic obedience
Basic obedience training is a must! As your pup learns to sit, stay, come, lie down, fetch, drop, etc., they also learn to look to you for guidance. They will recognize early on to trust you and follow your lead, and you will gain confidence in your ability to communicate with your dog.
- Potty training
Your dog is only a puppy for a short while, but that smell lasts forever! We can point your pup in the right direction from day one.
- Leash behavior
We can teach your dog to “heel” with short, private walks. It’s important to save most socialization for when your pup is a little older and has a healthier immune system. Also, they tire more quickly than adult dogs, so it’s best to save the mile runs for when they’re older! However, a puppy who can walk is old enough to learn how to walk nicely on the leash without pulling or running after distractions.
- Crate training
We always recommend crate training because, if done correctly, it will give your dog a safe space. Think of it like a “den” that your dog’s ancestors might have used. It should be a small, quiet area just for your dog. It can be a handy tool when dealing with separation anxiety or when your pup wants some alone time.
- Unique challenges
Every puppy is different, and some may develop undesirable behaviors early on. These can include chewing, nipping, growling, barking, digging, and running off, to name a few. The great thing about in-home training is that we can cater fully to your puppy’s needs. We’ll tackle all of the above challenges and any unique behavioral problems, as well.
We use positive-reinforcement puppy training methods to foster a solid, lifelong relationship between you and your dog. Contact us today to schedule a no-obligation in-home consultation. Please e-mail us or give us a call at 210.890.3470.
