Aggressive Dog Training in San Antonio

WE CAN HELP!

It’s common for owners of aggressive dogs to worry about stigma. They often feel—or are made to feel—like failures. If you have an aggressive dog of a notorious breed, like a pit bull, you may be even more hesitant to reach out for help.

Alamo Dog Training provides judgment-free services through our aggressive dog training program. We know that aggression is a behavioral problem, and modifying canine behavior is what we do best! We use positive reinforcement methods to address your dog’s aggression and turn off their triggers. We do not believe in hopeless cases, and we know there is always a better alternative to euthanization.

In-home training keeps you at the forefront of your dog’s training, so you feel confident handling them even when we aren’t there.

We believe that all aggressive dog training programs should be performed within the home for a few reasons:

  1. You need to be involved in the process.

There is no magic wand that we use to make your dog better. It takes a lot of commitment on your part to help your dog overcome their behavioral triggers and learn to follow your commands instead of their instincts. Overcoming aggression requires a dog to have complete faith in their owner, and that will never happen if you aren’t right there learning along with them.

  1. The dog should be around their behavioral triggers.

There are a few common triggers for aggression. These include siblings (other animals within the home), strangers, food, territorial instincts, maternal instincts, and walking on the leash, to name a few. If you send your dog away, they will not have the benefit of being trained around the cause(s) of their aggression. This means that even if they don’t show aggressive behavior at a training facility, they may demonstrate it once they are back around their sibling, home, toys, etc. We train your dog in your home, helping them battle their triggers before slowly moving them out into society.

  1. Your dog gets to stay in their comfort zone.

A lot of people don’t realize that aggression is often caused by anxiety and a lack of confidence. Training your dog in their comfort zone, around their family unit, makes your dog more likely to stay calm and receptive to the training methods. This is why we train hard at home and then gradually take them out on a leash, allowing them more freedom as their confidence grows and their behavior improves.

All of our programs use positive reinforcement training. Our philosophy is that by building a strong foundation of trust, respect, and communication, anything is possible for your dog—even overcoming aggression!
